Children & Young People’s Mental Health Services

Autism and ADHD Assessments

If you live in Worcestershire and your child is registered with a GP Practice, they are able to receive an assessment for Autism (ASD) and/or ADHD, subject to eligibility. As a parent/carer, if you believe your child may have ASD or ADHD, you can use the information on this page to access our Children and Young People’s (CYP) Mental Health Services.

Is Vertis the correct provider for your child?

Our CYP ASD/ADHD services are held in person at our clinic in Crabbs Cross, Redditch, aiming to provide your child with the best possible pathway for their care. We understand that every individual has different needs, which is why our services are built to be flexible. We cater to each patient as much as possible throughout the process to ensure they’re comfortable before, during and after their assessment.

Eligibility

This service is available to patients who fit all of the below criteria:

  • Are aged between 6 years and 17 years and 6 months old.

    • Children under the age of 6 may be eligible in exceptional circumstances.

  • Are registered with a Worcestershire GP

  • Are considered by their GP and/or school to potentially benefit from an assessment, diagnosis and treatment

  • Are not dependent on alcohol or other substances

  • Have not already had a negative assessment for ADHD and/or ASD in the last two years, unless new supporting information has become available.

The Patient Pathway

The referral process for both our ASD and ADHD services is very similar, however different forms will have to be completed for each service, even if you intend to have your child assessed for both conditions.

The first thing you’ll need to do as a parent or carer is contact your child’s school to understand whether they also believe your child would be suitable for an ADHD or ASD assessment. If the school believe your child would benefit from an assessment, you can start the referral process.

Parent/Carer Referrals

You will need to complete a referral form (linked below) for the child in your care, depending on the service you wish to refer into. This form will need to be returned to your child’s GP practice once completed.

To send the form to your child’s GP practice, you will need to send it as an attachment in an email to the practice. To do this, you can find the email address of the practice via their website (usually found in the footer of their website or on the “Contact Us” page).

Note: Only the appropriate form below should be completed - for example, if you’re referring into the ASD service, only complete the ASD Referral Form.

School Referrals

Your child’s school will also need to complete the appropriate referral form (linked below). Please ensure that you fill out the GP name and email address on the school’s referral form before handing it to the school for them to complete.

Once the school has completed their referral form, they will also need to return the form to your child’s GP practice. Once both forms are handed back to the GP practice, they will send them to us as part of your child’s referral process.

Once we’ve received the full referral, we will aim to book you and your child an initial appointment within 12 weeks.

FAQs

  • We are aiming to see patients for an initial appointment within 12 weeks of their initial referral. This may be a telephone or video appointment that occurs before their full, in-person assessment.

After the initial appointment, we aim to complete the assessment and diagnosis process within 6 months.

This may change depending on service demand.

  • If you think you may need extra support in filling out the referral forms, please let your GP practice know so they can work with us to provide extra support for you.
