ADHD - Right to Choose
ADHD - Right to Choose
If you live in England and are registered with a GP Practice, you have the legal right to choose your preferred ADHD and mental healthcare provider. Importantly, this means that if you decide for any reason that you do not want to receive care from a particular provider - perhaps the waiting times are too long for your liking - you can choose to receive care from a different provider of your choice.
Here at Vertis we aim to provide a service that you feel confident in choosing. Our team is dedicated to providing you with a level of care and support that puts you at ease and helps you take control.
Is Vertis the correct provider for you?
Our ADHD service is an online and in-person service, aiming to provide you with the best possible pathway for your care. We understand that every individual has different needs, which is why we offer multiple appointment types.
Currently, under Right to Choose, only adults can be referred. Children and adolescents can be referred into the Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) via school or GP referral.
Eligibility
This service is available to patients who fit all of the below criteria:
Are aged 18 years and over
Are registered with a Worcestershire GP
Have not already had a diagnosis as a child or adult
Are considered by their GP to potentially benefit from an assessment, diagnosis and treatment
Are not dependent on drugs, alcohol or other substances
The Patient Pathway
Once your GP is satisfied that you would benefit from receiving care, you can elect to choose Vertis as your provider of choice. Your GP may also provide Vertis as an option, alongside other providers.
Once your referral is reviewed, we’ll contact you via text with a pre-assessment questionnaire. This questionnaire is used to ensure you’re eligible for an assessment and to assess you as accurately as possible. We’ll also need you to submit your pulse and blood pressure measurements before your assessment.
Your Assessment
You’ll then be invited to book an appointment for your assessment, which you can do by calling us. You’ll meet with a qualified ADHD assessor who will ask you in depth questions about your medical and personal history, and any experiences you’ve had which made you consider having an assessment.
Your assessments can last anywhere from 30 minutes up to 2 hours, so please ensure you have enough time for your appointments.
Shortly after your assessment, you’ll receive notice of your official diagnosis from us. The result of your assessment is largely dependent on the information you provide us and your assessor, so it’s important to be as accurate and clear as possible.
Your Diagnosis
If you receive a positive diagnosis (the ADHD assessor diagnoses you with ADHD), you can choose to receive medication to help you manage your ADHD. Alternatively, you can choose to be signposted to local community care providers who can assist you in managing your new diagnosis.
If you choose to receive medication, we will discuss all available options with you to decide on the best course of action and find the most appropriate medication for you. We’ll also book a follow-up phone appointment with you to review your medication and how you’re feeling.
Once you’re settled on a medication and dosage, we’ll aim to transition you to Shared Care, where your GP will manage your medication prescriptions. For more information on Shared Care, please click the button below.
How to access this service
If your GP practice suggests referring you into an ADHD or mental healthcare service, you can choose for your referral to be sent to us. It can usually take up to 4 weeks for your referral to be processed - if you haven’t heard from us within this time, please contact your GP practice.
Appointments and Cancellations
Our ADHD Service appointments can last for anywhere from 30 minutes up to 2 hours, so it is highly recommended that you set the time aside for an appointment before booking.
Your appointment may be broken up into smaller sections covering different aspects of the assessment, however it is vital that you have enough time to attend the full appointment.
Cancellations
At Vertis Health, we’re working hard to provide accessible ADHD assessments to patients as quickly as possible. However, it is not possible to fill an appointment slot if they are cancelled last minute.
If you’ve booked an appointment with us, please be aware that a cancellation will reduce appointment availability for other patients who could’ve been seen during this time.
We kindly ask that you do not cancel any appointments unless you absolutely have to. Late cancellations or missed appointments may lead to delays in your assessment and future treatment.
If you miss your appointment without notice, we will:
Notify your GP
Record it as a “Did Not Attend” (DNA)
You may not be rebooked unless your GP refers you again
Missed appointments reduce availability for others and delay care.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call 01905 671753.
Zero Tolerance to Abuse
At Vertis Health, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment for everyone who uses our services. Our staff are here to help you, and they have the right to work without fear of violence, aggression or abuse.
We therefore operate a strict zero‑tolerance approach to any form of:
Verbal abuse, shouting or threatening language
Offensive, discriminatory or derogatory remarks
Aggressive behaviour, intimidation or harassment
Physical violence or attempted violence
Damage to property
Any behaviour that makes staff feel unsafe or prevents them from doing their job
These behaviours are unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances, whether in person, on the phone, by email, or any other means.
Why We Take This Seriously
Our responsibility is to provide high‑quality care while protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our staff, patients and visitors. Abuse or aggression towards healthcare workers not only affects individuals but can disrupt the care we are able to provide to others.
Vertis Health complies with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) and follows robust procedures to prevent and manage violent or aggressive incidents.
What Happens If Abuse Occurs
If a person behaves in an abusive, aggressive or violent manner, we may take the following actions, depending on the seriousness of the incident:
Report the incident to the police
Restrict or withdraw access to services, where safe and clinically appropriate
Inform their GP or relevant commissioners if access to services needs to change
In exceptional or serious cases, individuals may be removed from our services. We ask all patients, visitors and carers to treat our staff with the same respect, dignity and kindness that they show to you. By working together, we can maintain a safe, calm and caring environment for everyone.
